Orange Juice
One proven way to reduce cholesterol is to drink 2 cups of sterol enhanced orange juice every morning (those are the ones that say they are heart healthy) or 4 cups of regular orange juice every day. This will help to greatly diminish the level of bad cholesterol that your body is producing.
Drink Black Tea Everyday
Drinking a cup of black tea every afternoon can help to reduce your cholesterol quite significantly and it is a great way to relax in the evening.
Have a Glass of Red Wine
A link between red wine and lower cholesterol has been discovered. The same has been found for some beers. This is only when the participant has a single 6-8 oz serving of these beverages. Drinking in excess will do nothing good for your heart or any other part of your body.
Eat Whole Grains
Whole grains are all over the place these days. They can help you maintain a healthy weight, they may help prevent cancer, and they lower cholesterol. If you eat a diet rich in whole grains you are much more likely to have a long healthy life.
While we are on the subject of grains, eating oats can help too. Having old fashioned oat meal each day can greatly reduce your cholesterol level.
Avoid Egg Yolks
You can eat all the egg whites that your heart desires but you should not consume more than 3 yolks in a given week. The yolks, though healthy in many respects, are very high in cholesterol and should be mostly avoided.
Avoid High Fat Foods
Stop frying and start baking. High fat foods have no benefit to your body. One of their many negative side effects is a high cholesterol level. High fat foods are in no way good for you and cause a multitude of health problems so avoiding them is the best route to take.
Fish and Fish Oil
Omega 3 fatty acids are great for lowering cholesterol. You can find these in fish and fish oil. Getting plenty of omega 3 fatty acids in your diet can help to low your cholesterol substantially. Have fish for dinner a few days a week or take fish oil supplements each day. Another way to get these all-important fatty acids is through the use of olive oil in cooking and salad dressing.
Flaxseed
Flaxseed has a number of beneficial nutrients that can help to lower cholesterol among other things. Flaxseed is full of omega 3 fatty acids as well as phytochemicals and fiber.
