The importance that your skin, specifically its appearance, has on a person’s life is to say the least significant. The skin is the most visible part of our overall being and is the one factor that most people us to make an initial judgment about others. One way that a person can make their skin look its best is to keep a healthy glow about it. There are numerous things that one can do to achieve this glow. Here are a few tips to help get it with little fuss.
First it is vital to understand that the overall appearance of the skin is directly related to it health. Skin is mostly water, up to 80% as a matter of fact. The remainder is made up of fats, proteins, oils and then the actual skin structures, such as hair and follicles, glands, nerves and the like. With this in mind it’s easy to see that proper hydration is essential for healthy skin. A person is recommended to take in approximately 64oz of water a day for general health. The American medical association recommends that this number be doubled to 128oz to provide for an increase in the health of skin, eyes, nails and hair.
Secondly, one should opt to skip out on those long, steamy showers (or at least greatly reduce them). While they may be relaxing for the mind and rejuvenating for the body, they can strip vital moisture from the skin. Short, cooler showers (no more than 104 degrees) and only showering three to four times per week will help keep the moisture in your skin. For other times consider baths and pour light skin pleasing oils and whole milk into the water to revitalize the skin.
Keep skin happy in the dry and harsh winter months by running a humidifier in the home and work place. The new generation of humidifiers are easier to use, cleaner to maintain, and provide a gentle cool mist as opposed to the uncomfortable hot mist of the past.
To make the face shine like the sun by spreading a few drops of olive oil over it. Rub the oil into the skin of the face, elbows, neck, knees, groin, and upper chest every night about half an hour before bed. The monounsaturated fats in olive oil help to restore the natural oils in skin, they also are excellent for providing a soothing and calming tone to the skin when it is irritated.
These are just a few of the great tips that one can use to get a natural and healthy glow to the skin. The skin is the first statement that a person makes to the world. Make sure that it is a great statement by keeping the skin healthy and happy.
